It’s the first I’ve heard of the singer and I absolutely love his new version of Hungry Eyes (originally an 80’s smash by Eric Carmen).

The singer is Anders Fernette. You can hear a 57-second clip of the song on his MySpace page. Or just go buy the whole song on iTunes.

For fans of the original, here’s the music video for that…

I have been posting pictures and video from Starry Night in the Garden on my station websites for over a week now, but I figured those that don’t check mystar1025.com regularly might like to hear how the whole event went.

All I can say is, Holy Smokes, what a GREAT show! It’s going to be hard to top next year, that is for sure.

The weather on the 24th was absolutely perfect – not a cloud in the sky. All the artists arrived safely and on time, their hotel rooms were satisfactory, and best of all, the show was a sellout days before.

I love when that happens.

But most of all, the performances were top knotch. I heard every act, from Safetysuit’s first notes, to Matt Nathanson’s encore of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing, and Mat Kearney in-between.

I say this every year, but one of the great things about my job is being exposed to new music, and then putting together fantastic live versions of my iPod playlists for an audience. It’s very cool for me to be able to share a vision for a great live show, and have people like it.

If you missed any part of it, there is a great photo recap and video content here:
http://mystar1025.com/Starry-Night-In-The-Garden-2009/4674381

Before and during the show, we managed to talk to all the artists. Safetysuit discussed with me making a hollywood style video, the VH1 Top 20 countdown, and who actually writes their songs.

I also talked with Mat Kearney about how he got his start, the Nashville scene, and breaking and entering to play piano here.
And John Anthony snagged an interview with our headliner, Matt Nathanson, just before he hit the stage.

All in all, it was a great night, and one of the best Starry Nights ever.

The primary reason we do this show every year is to raise awareness and help in the restoration of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, an architectural treasure, and one of only a handful of Victorian tri-dome botanical gardens in the world. If you have never seen the gardens, make a point to visit this Summer. And definitely come to next year’s 10th Anniversary Starry Night in the Garden show!

Their new song is the title track from their 9th album Foot Of The Mountain. I absolutely love it! Although there’s really never been an a-ha song that I didn’t like.

You can buy the new album here.

And check out the video for Foot Of The Mountain…

In honor of the new a-ha song and album, I thought I’d also post the original version of their biggest hit.

Originally, it was called Lesson One when the demo was recorded in 1983.

For its release version in 1984, the song morphed into Take On Me and bombed (it’s rumored only 300 copies sold). I guess the world just wasn’t ready for the greatest song on the planet at that point.

A year later, it was remixed and given an awesome video – it then became a giant hit.

Here’s the original version (in its Take On Me incarnation) with its original video. It’s still a great song, even at this early stage…

Here’s the preview clip for Matt Nathanson’s appearance this past March on Live From Daryl’s House, which we talked about on-air yesterday. And yes, it’s actually Daryl Hall’s basement.

To see the full episode, visit the official Live From Daryl’s House website.

To hear my interview with Matt before he went on stage at Starry Night, visit the On-Demand page at mystar1025.com.

And for a ton of pictures and videos from Starry Night, click here.

There’s also a bunch of Starry Night videos up on YouTube. Here’s a few I just found: SafetySuit / Mat Kearney / Matt Nathanson.

More Rabbit Problems Pt 2

A week ago I posted the story and pics of baby rabbits setting up shop in my front yard and landscaping. As of today, it looks like they are ready to leave! I came home Wednesday, looked in the nest, and saw a couple of eyes, this time with hair on the head and body, staring back at me (pics 1 and 2). Today, the baby bunnies were out and taking their first steps when I came home. I probably scared the you know what out of them. But hey, they decided to set up right next to where I park the car! Enjoy the pics and video!

Three rabbits in the nest, one staring back. Now about 10 days old.

Bunnies have turned their backs..all three together. You can see two of them pretty well.

Bunny takes his first steps…

…and tries to hide from the camera, and the crazy man taking the pics.
There are two rabbits back to back (check the rear legs on left)

It’s been a great season on I’m A Celebrity. I think this turned out far better than the first version of the show on ABC a few years back.

At first, I was disappointed in the “celebrities”. But just like Big Brother or Amazing Race where you don’t know the people to begin with, I got used to the players and ended up loving the show.

The same can be said for the hosts – Myleene and Damien made a great hosting team. (I just realized that Myleene was in a music group I used to like about eight years ago. See her in a Hear’Say music video here.)

Lou Diamond Phillips ended up being the obvious winner of I’m A Celebrity 2009. He really did go all out in every challenge and was the voice of reason throughout the entire series.

The biggest mystery as the season wraps up – why Frangela didn’t return for the reunion. I thought a reason would be mentioned for them not returning, but there wasn’t even a clip from them on the reunion show. According to their Twitter page, it seems like they at least considered it a week ago. Hmmm. Another website mentions their unhappiness with the show’s production crew. Maybe that’s why they weren’t there.

No announcement has been made for the show to return next year. But if it was cheap enough to produce, it could possibly be back. To get better ratings, I almost think there would have to be a ton of controversial contestants next season. That way at least some of the crazy ones would remain until the end. But an entire show of all Spencers and Janices might be a bit much.

Overall though, it was a fun season and I think a great show. I hope it comes back next summer.

Tommy Shaw of STYX (above) had a day off last Monday before their show Tuesday night in Washington, D.C. so like any good rockers STYX took in a visit to the White House. This wasn’t just any tour though, the band actually held a question and answer session in the Briefing Room on the podium where members of the press corps were able to interact with the band and get pictures.

After their “briefing” STYX got a private tour of the White House, and the guide asked drummer Todd Sucherman if he knew President Obama was a fan, Todd said “someone had mentioned that we are in his iPod, but I can’t substantiate that.”

It’s finale week on I’m A Celebrity! And I’m stunned that just days before the finale, Stephen Baldwin left the game on his own. That was weird.

But now that he’s out of the jungle, the real reason has been revealed. Hear it for yourself in his exit interview…

The part about John Salley was a surprise! Maybe that’ll get mentioned when the players reunite for the finale tomorrow night.

As it stands now, I wouldn’t mind any one of them winning. Even Patti – yes, the producers’ plan worked. How could anyone not like her, even though she’s a non-celebrity on a celebrity show.

As for the drama, there’s none left. Luckily, the gameplay will take up the rest of the show. Without that, the producers really would have been in trouble.

I’d love to see Torrie take the whole thing. But my guess for who will win – Lou Diamond Phillips. He seems like a nice guy and he’s dominated the game. Two more leave tonight, leaving only three for tomorrow’s finale. I can’t wait!

8 years in now, it’s difficult to even imagine me not being a father. It’s not an easy job, especially as I watch my son and daughter leaving childhood behind far too quickly. To hear Darcy’s little girl voice slowly going away is so hard. To watch Connor fielding calls from girls after school amuses me, mostly, but it also speaks loudly and clearly to me they’re not going to be little kids much longer.

(Hopefully there won’t be boys calling Darcy at home for many many years…)

So I try to savor it, and enjoy these fleeting moments while they’re here. Fathers Day morning was one of those moments. The kids woke me up with very sweet cards and projects, like these.

Connor made me a new mousepad (pictured) as well as a book of things he would give me, if he could. (Sample: “If I could give my Dad something, it would be a transporter, so he wouldn’t be late.”) My boy knows me a little too well.

And Darcy put together a book of “Why My Dad Is Special.” On page 3 (pictured), My Dad Cooks With Me. At first I thought she was referring to the excellent grilled cheese sandwiches that I occasionally make on the weekends, but looking at the drawing I realize we are on the back patio, I am at the grill, and Darcy is at the picnic table.

I’m sure every parent has stories and drawings just like these. As much as people watch and talk about shows like Jon & Kate + 8 and all the rest, it’s not the excesses that make life wonderful, it’s the small moments, like Fathers Day morning, that I know I’ll remember forever.

And now, 10 Things Your Father Was Right About.

1) You are the prettiest girl in the world.
2) Sinatra.
3) You should always keep jumper cables in your car… just in case.
4) Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey.
5) That guy really wasn’t good enough for you.
6) You do not need a pony.
7) The cardinal rule of grilling: Pressing down on the burger will only dry it out.
8) Yes, honey, all your male “friends” do secretly want more.
9) Paying $200 for a haircut is crazy.
10) It’s not worth trying to repair the toaster yourself.

See you at Starry Night tonight! Pictures and video to come.

I’ve always been a fan of shows about myths and legends. And this one is extremely good! It reminds me a little of Smallville, but with magic instead of superpowers.

If you missed the first two episodes of Merlin last night, you can still catch up and watch them on the NBC website.

And if you’re already a fan, here’s some good news – Merlin has already been renewed for a second season!

The second season will actually start airing overseas in the fall, but there’s no word on when it will begin here in North America. No worries though, we’ve still got 11 more episodes of the first season to see.

Twitterpated!!

Sorry Thumpber, but Twitterpated has a whole new meaning. By now you’ve probably created an account and started following some users. You may have even sent a few tweets out into the world, but you still don’t get it, and you’re ready to dismiss Twitter for good. Here’s a great article from Marketwatch’s Amy Hoak on why Twitter is the real deal, especially for businesses.

Torrie stayed! I’d really like to see her win the whole thing next week.

As for who went, I wasn’t too sad to see Holly Montag leave. She seems a lot more sane than her sister, but she was a late arrival and as I’ve mentioned before, I really think the ones who have been there the entire time deserves to win.

Then Janice Dickinson went. Not a shock after all of America saw her do one thing and then say something totally different in her personal interviews. It’s almost like she has a split personality. I’ll definitely miss her interactions with the show hosts though – it was hysterical how she was always so nice to Myleene and so snarky to Damien.

With Janice gone now, all the drama is also gone. Good thing this happened with only one week to go, otherwise the show would have been painfully boring to watch.

Although there is that alliance with Patti and John. Stephen seems to think Patti’s up to something, but it looks like it’s just two friends hanging out and trying to stay away from the craziness. That should be easy to do now as the craziness is on a plane back to the US.

But some crazy will return next week. Apparently Heidi & Spencer Pratt are returning to the jungle for the final episode. NBC must be desperate for a ratings boost. It’s sad that they need those two though. I’d rather see them just play back some of Janice’s personal interviews to the celebrities – that would cause a reaction!

Catch up on full episodes on the NBC website and then get set for the final week of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here next week on NBC!

I’ve been talking about MC Hammer’s new reality show Hammertime all week long. It sounds like it’s Gene Simmons Family Jewels, but with MC Hammer. That’s a good thing as the Gene Simmons show is the best of the “family” reality shows.

Get to know MC Hammer and his family Sunday nights at 10pm on A&E.

In the meantime, I sure hope Torrie stays in on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! I’m worried because when I called the number to keep her in last night, I got right through the first time. That might be a bad sign. We’ll see tonight.

For now, check out the full-length slasher movie the celebrities made (only a small portion of it aired on NBC). It’s actually pretty good when you consider it’s done in the middle of the jungle with only a camcorder. And you gotta love all the ketchup blood!

Aqua has now released a video for their new song Back To The 80’s!

It’s not as clever as some of their older videos, but it’s definitely got a late-80’s feel to it.

Hopefully the US single release won’t be far behind as I can’t get this song out of my head.
